Drug Uses -
Fioricet is used to treat tension headaches caused by contractions of the muscles in the neck and shoulder area, and migraine. Fioricet is a sedative in combination with a non-aspirin pain medication and caffeine.
How Taken -
Fioricet is a capsule to be taken orally. Usually 2 capsules are taken every 4 hours. The maximum dosage is 6 capsules a day. There is risk to become dependent on Fioricet if take it for a long period of time.
Warnings/Precautions -
Fioricet may cause drowsiness, so be careful when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. You should avoid such activities if you experience drowsiness. Consult with your doctor if you had a depression or drug abuse or if you experience liver or kidney disease, abdominal trouble or if you are elderly. Do not take Fioricet without medical consultation if you are pregnant or if you are breast-feeding a baby. Fioricet affects an unborn baby and passes into breast milk.
Missed Dose -
You should take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Nevertheless, if it is near to the time for your next dose, do not take an extra tablet to catch up for the dose you forgot. Wait and take your next tablet at the regular time. Do not take a double dose.
Possible Side Effects -
Consult with your doctor immediately if you experience: abdominal pain, dizziness, drowsiness, intoxicated feeling, light-headedness, nausea, sedation, shortness of breath, vomiting. Less serious side effects may also occur: agitation, allergic reactions, constipation, depression, difficulty swallowing, dry mouth, earache, exaggerated feeling of well-being, excessive sweating, excessive urination, excitement, fainting, fatigue, fever, flatulence, headache, heartburn, heavy eyelids, high energy, hot spells, itching, leg pain, mental confusion, muscle fatigue, numbness, rapid heartbeat, ringing in the ears, seizure, shaky feeling, skin redness and/or peeling, sluggishness, stuffy nose, tingling. Your doctor will tell you whether it is safe to continue taking Fioricet.
Storage -
Store below 30°C (86° F) in a tightly closed container. Fioricet should be kept out of the reach of children.
Overdose -
Combination of Fioricet with alcohol or any depressant may cause unconsciousness and perhaps death. The typical symptoms of Fioricet overdosage are: severe drowsiness, confusion, extreme weakness, hallucination, shortness of breath, too slow or troubled breathing, slurred speech, lack of coordination, vomiting with blood, unusually slow heartbeat.
More Information -
Fioricet interactions with MAO inhibitors may be life-threatening. Do not use Fioricet before 14 days after you took MAO inhibitors are over. Do not use Fioricet along with drugs that cause drowsiness, including antidepressants, alcohol, antihistamines, sedatives, pain relievers, anxiety medicines, muscle relaxants or any other medicines without medical consultation.
